At which recording studio did Metallica begin recording The Black Album in October 1990?

The story behind the answer

Metallica began recording The Black Album at One on One Recording Studios in Los Angeles in October 1990.

The sessions began on October 6, 1990, and continued through June 16, 1991. One on One, located in North Hollywood, was the main recording base for the album, although the band also worked at Little Mountain Sound Studios in Vancouver for about a week.

Final overdubs and mixing later took place at A&M Studios in Hollywood. These locations are easy to mix up because all three appear in accounts of the album’s production, but One on One was the studio where the principal recording process started.

Producer Bob Rock encouraged Metallica to work more collaboratively in the studio than it had on earlier albums. The band also aimed for a more direct, live-feeling performance, contributing to the record’s slower, heavier, and more polished sound compared with its earlier thrash-metal releases.
