At which recording studio did Metallica begin recording the album commonly called The Black Album?
Answer
One on One Recording Studios
Answer
One on One Recording Studios
Metallica began recording the album commonly called The Black Album at One on One Recording Studios in Los Angeles.
The sessions began in October 1990 and continued for roughly eight months. The studio was in the Los Angeles area and became the principal recording location for the project, while the band also spent about a week at Little Mountain Sound Studios in Vancouver.
Additional overdubs and mixing took place at A&M Studios in Hollywood near the end of the production. These multiple locations are one reason the album's recording history is sometimes simplified incorrectly as having happened entirely in one room.
The One on One sessions were also important because producer Bob Rock wanted the musicians to play more collaboratively. Metallica had often assembled parts separately on earlier records, but Rock encouraged a stronger full-band feel for this album.
