At which Moscow venue did Metallica play during the 1991 Monsters of Rock finale?

The story behind the answer

Metallica played the 1991 Monsters of Rock finale at Tushino Airfield in Moscow.

The concert took place on September 28, 1991, during the period when the Soviet Union was dissolving. Metallica appeared on a bill that also included AC/DC, Pantera, the Black Crowes and the Russian band E.S.T. The free event became one of the most famous large-scale rock concerts of the era.

Attendance estimates vary widely. Contemporary and later accounts have cited figures ranging from several hundred thousand people to more than one million, while unofficial estimates have gone even higher. The uncertainty reflects the enormous open-air crowd and the difficulty of counting it accurately.

The Moscow appearance was part of Metallica's 1991 touring activity surrounding The Black Album, but it was not the band's dedicated Wherever We May Roam Tour. Performances from the event also appeared in the concert film For Those About to Rock: Monsters in Moscow.
