At which historic town was Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, born in 1469?
Answer
Nankana Sahib
Answer
Nankana Sahib
Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, was born at Nankana Sahib in 1469.
The town was historically called Rai-Bhoi-di-Talwandi and lies in present-day Punjab, Pakistan. It was renamed Nankana Sahib in honor of Guru Nanak and is one of the most important Sikh pilgrimage sites.
Several gurdwaras commemorate events associated with his life there, especially Gurdwara Janam Asthan, traditionally identified as his birthplace. Guru Nanak later traveled widely and established Kartarpur, where he spent his final years.
Nankana Sahib is sometimes confused with Amritsar, which became the central city of Sikh worship later, or with Kartarpur, where Guru Nanak lived near the end of his life. The town’s name directly reflects its connection with Sikhism’s founder.
