At which French chateau was Fleetwood Mac's 'Mirage' album recorded?

The story behind the answer

Fleetwood Mac recorded their 'Mirage' album at Château d'Hérouville in France. The sessions took place at the château's recording facility during the spring of 1981, before the band completed the album in California.

Producer Ken Caillat discovered the French studio while looking for a setting outside Los Angeles. Mick Fleetwood wanted the group to move away from the experimentation of 'Tusk' and pursue a more direct, commercially accessible sound closer to 'Rumours'. The band spent about five weeks recording at the château.

The album was not made entirely in France. Additional recording, overdubbing, and mixing took place at Larrabee Sound and the Record Plant in Los Angeles. This is a common source of confusion: Château d'Hérouville was the notable French recording location, but California studios were also part of the production.

Released in July 1982, 'Mirage' became Fleetwood Mac's fifth US number-one album and produced singles including 'Hold Me' and 'Gypsy'.
