Beyoncé performed her famous 2018 headlining set at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
She headlined Coachella in April 2018, becoming the first Black woman to headline the festival. The performance featured a marching-band-inspired production, extensive choreography, guest appearances, and reunions with former Destiny’s Child members Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams.
Netflix released Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé in 2019. The documentary combines performance footage with behind-the-scenes material about the demanding preparation for the festival. Its title also refers to the historically Black college and university tradition that inspired the show’s visual and musical design.
The performance is sometimes called “Beychella,” a fan-made portmanteau of Beyoncé and Coachella. Coachella’s official name is the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. It should not be confused with Beyoncé’s later Renaissance World Tour.
