Beyoncé performed her celebrated 2018 headlining set at Coachella.
She headlined the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California, on April 14 and April 21, 2018. The performance was widely praised for its scale, musicianship, choreography, and celebration of Black college and university traditions.
The set featured a marching-band-inspired sound, a large ensemble of dancers and musicians, and guest appearances by Destiny’s Child, JAY-Z, and Solange. Beyoncé became the first Black woman to headline Coachella, making the booking historically significant as well as musically notable.
Netflix released Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé in 2019. The documentary combines rehearsal footage with the festival performance and was accompanied by a live album. Coachella is sometimes shortened to “Chella,” but the festival’s official name is the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
