Beyoncé headlined Coachella in 2018, the performance documented in Homecoming.
She became the first Black woman to headline the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. Her two weekend performances, on April 14 and April 21, 2018, featured a large marching-band-inspired production, a substantial dance ensemble, and guest appearances by Destiny’s Child, Jay-Z, and Solange.
Netflix released Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé in 2019. The documentary combines concert footage with behind-the-scenes material and rehearsal scenes, including discussion of the preparation required after Beyoncé gave birth to twins in 2017.
The event is often called “Beychella,” a nickname created by fans and media. That nickname is not the official festival name: the event itself was Coachella, formally the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. Beyoncé’s performance became a major reference point for festival staging and representation.
