At which event did Beyoncé become the first Black woman to headline?
Answer
Coachella
Answer
Coachella
Beyoncé became the first Black woman to headline the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
She headlined Coachella on April 14 and April 21, 2018, in Indio, California. Her performances were widely praised for their scale, live musicianship, choreography, and celebration of historically Black college and university traditions.
The set featured a large marching-band and dance-team presentation, making the performance a major cultural event beyond the festival itself. It also reunited Beyoncé with former Destiny’s Child members Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams for a performance of several group songs.
The performance later became the basis for the 2019 Netflix documentary and live album Homecoming. Beyoncé’s appearance followed years of Coachella headliners from rock, pop, hip-hop, and electronic music, but she was the festival’s first Black female headliner.
