Beyoncé became the first Black woman to headline Coachella in 2018.
Her performance took place at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California, on April 14 and April 21, 2018. It was her first major performance after giving birth to twins, Rumi and Sir, in 2017.
The set featured a marching-band-inspired production, a large ensemble of dancers and musicians, and a Destiny’s Child reunion with Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. The performance was widely nicknamed “Beychella.”
The distinction is specifically about headlining Coachella, not being the festival’s first female headliner or first Black performer. Beyoncé’s 2018 appearance became the basis of the Netflix documentary Homecoming.
