Newcastle United versus Liverpool was scheduled for 16:30 BST on Sunday 23 August 2026.
The match was the later of the two Sunday fixtures in the 2026–27 Premier League opening round. Manchester City versus Bournemouth and Brighton & Hove Albion versus Aston Villa were both scheduled for 14:00, before Newcastle hosted Liverpool at 16:30.
Newcastle played at St James’ Park, while Liverpool were the visiting side. The fixture was one of the round’s most prominent meetings because it paired two clubs with long Premier League histories and large national followings. It also occupied a separate televised slot from the simultaneous Sunday matches.
The time should not be confused with Brentford versus Tottenham’s 17:30 Saturday kickoff or the 14:00 Sunday matches. The opening round finished the following evening with Fulham versus Chelsea at 20:00 on Monday 24 August, so Newcastle and Liverpool were not the final teams to play in Match Round 1.
