The 2026–27 Premier League season’s opening match kicked off at 20:00 BST in the United Kingdom.
The first fixture was Arsenal versus Coventry City at Emirates Stadium on Friday, 21 August 2026. The evening start allowed the defending champions to open the campaign in a standalone televised match.
Arsenal won 3–0, beginning their title defence with a convincing home victory. Coventry were one of three newly promoted clubs and were appearing in the Premier League after a 25-year absence.
The opening time should not be confused with the next day’s early fixture. Hull City versus Manchester United was the first Saturday lunchtime match and was scheduled for 12:30 BST. The season’s opening weekend then used a mixture of afternoon and evening kick-offs, ending with Fulham versus Chelsea at 20:00 BST on Monday.
