Newcastle United v Liverpool kicked off at 16:30 BST in the 2026–27 Premier League opening round.
The match was played on Sunday 23 August 2026 at St James’ Park. It was the third Sunday fixture, following Manchester City v Bournemouth and Brighton & Hove Albion v Aston Villa, both scheduled for 14:00.
The late-Sunday kickoff was part of the broadcast distribution for the first Match Round. Newcastle and Liverpool produced a 2–2 draw, meaning the match contributed four goals and one point to each club’s opening record.
The time is easy to mix up with the Saturday evening fixture, Brentford v Tottenham Hotspur, which was scheduled for 17:30. Newcastle v Liverpool was earlier in the day and used the 16:30 BST slot.
