Newcastle United versus Liverpool was scheduled to kick off at 16:30 in the 2026–27 opening round.
The match was placed on Sunday 23 August 2026 at St James’ Park. It was the final Sunday fixture, following the two matches scheduled for 14:00: Manchester City versus Bournemouth and Brighton & Hove Albion versus Aston Villa.
Kickoff times in Premier League fixture announcements are normally given in British local time. The official schedule listed this match at 16:30, while the opening round’s other late weekend times included Brentford versus Tottenham Hotspur at 17:30 on Saturday.
The round did not finish on Sunday: Fulham versus Chelsea was scheduled for 20:00 on Monday 24 August. That distinction separates the latest Sunday kickoff from the final match of the entire opening round.
