Newcastle United versus Liverpool was scheduled to begin at 16:30 BST during the 2026–27 Premier League opening weekend.
The fixture was played on Sunday 23 August 2026 at St James’ Park. It was the final Premier League match of the Sunday programme, following the two simultaneous 14:00 fixtures involving Brighton, Aston Villa, Manchester City and Bournemouth.
The 16:30 slot is a familiar prominent weekend television window in the Premier League. It also made Newcastle–Liverpool the latest scheduled kickoff on Sunday, before the round concluded with Fulham against Chelsea on Monday evening.
The time can be confused with 17:30, which was used for Brentford against Tottenham on Saturday. It is also distinct from the two Sunday matches that began at 14:00.
