Most of the Eagles’ debut album was recorded at London’s Olympic Studios.

Released in 1972, Eagles was the band’s first studio album and introduced its country-rock sound to a wide audience. Producer Glyn Johns brought the newly formed group to England for roughly two weeks of sessions at Olympic, a renowned facility associated with major recordings by artists including the Rolling Stones and Jimi Hendrix.

The wording “most of” matters. Although Olympic Studios was the principal recording location, “Nightingale” was later recorded in Los Angeles at Wally Heider’s Studio 3. The additional session followed disagreements about the album’s balance and the desire for another song featuring Don Henley on lead vocals.

The album reached No. 22 on the Billboard 200 and produced three Top 40 singles: “Take It Easy,” “Witchy Woman,” and “Peaceful Easy Feeling.” Its London sessions helped establish the Eagles’ polished vocal blend and country-rock identity, even as the band later pushed toward a tougher rock sound.
