At what age did Noah enter the Ark, according to Genesis?

The story behind the answer

According to Genesis, Noah was 600 years old when he entered the Ark.

Genesis 7:6 states that Noah was six hundred years old when the Flood waters came upon the Earth. Genesis 7:11 gives an additional chronological marker, saying the Flood began in Noah’s six hundredth year, in the second month and on the seventeenth day of the month. Together, these verses place Noah’s entry into the Flood narrative at age 600.

The age belongs to the genealogical and chronological framework of Genesis, which records exceptionally long lifespans for several early figures. Genesis later says Noah lived 350 years after the Flood and died at 950, another figure that is often mistakenly given as his age when he boarded the Ark.

The question also differs from Noah’s age when his sons were born. Genesis 5:32 introduces Shem, Ham, and Japheth after stating that Noah was 500 years old, so the sons’ births and the Flood occur at different points in the narrative.
