At the 2026 Critics' Choice Awards, who won Best Visual Effects for Avatar: Fire and Ash?

The story behind the answer

Joe Letteri, Richard Baneham, Eric Saindon, and Daniel Barrett won Best Visual Effects for Avatar: Fire and Ash at the 2026 Critics' Choice Awards.

The award recognized the visual-effects team behind James Cameron's science-fiction sequel. The nominated work included the film's digital environments, creatures, characters, and large-scale world-building, all of which are central to the Avatar series' visual identity.

The team defeated effects contenders from F1, Frankenstein, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, Sinners, and Superman. Several of those films also appeared in other craft categories, but the Critics Choice voters selected Avatar: Fire and Ash for visual effects.

This category is different from Best Cinematography, which went to Adolpho Veloso for Train Dreams, and Best Production Design, which recognized Tamara Deverell and Shane Vieau for Frankenstein. Those awards honor different aspects of a film's visual construction.
