After leaving Noah’s Ark, Genesis says Noah planted a vineyard.
Genesis 9:20 describes Noah as a man of the soil who began planting a vineyard after the Flood. The next verses say that he drank wine, became drunk, and lay uncovered in his tent. This episode follows the covenant and blessing narrative in Genesis 9.
The passage does not say that Noah planted wheat, an olive grove, or a fig orchard first. The vineyard is the specific crop named in the account. The story is also one reason Noah is connected with viticulture in biblical art and later cultural traditions.
The vineyard episode occurs after the Ark has come to rest and Noah’s family has left it. It is therefore separate from the earlier account of the dove’s olive leaf, which signals receding waters but does not say that Noah planted an olive tree.
