According to the Quran, how many years did Noah remain among his people before the Flood?

The story behind the answer

According to the Quran, Noah remained among his people for 950 years before the Flood.

Quran 29:14 says Noah stayed among his people for a thousand years less fifty years before the Flood overtook them. The arithmetic expression equals 950 years. In Islamic tradition, Noah is called Nuh and is regarded as a prophet who warned his people and called them to worship God.

This figure is often compared with the Bible’s chronology, but the passages use the number differently. Genesis says Noah was 600 when the Flood began and later records his death at 950. The Quranic verse describes the length of Noah’s presence among his people, not explicitly his age at the Flood.

The Quran recounts Noah’s story in several surahs, including Hud, Al-Mu’minun, Ash-Shu’ara, Al-Qamar, and Nuh. The account emphasizes his preaching, his people’s rejection, and God’s rescue of the believers in the Ark.
