According to the Book of Genesis, eight people were aboard Noah’s Ark during the Flood.
Genesis names Noah, his wife, their three sons—Shem, Ham, and Japheth—and the wives of those three sons. Together, they form the complete human group preserved in the Ark narrative. The text does not give the women’s names.
This number is sometimes confused with the number of animals, which Genesis describes separately. First Peter 3:20 also refers to “eight souls” being saved through water, reinforcing the traditional Christian reading. Other ancient flood traditions contain different survivor numbers, so the answer applies specifically to the Genesis account.
