According to Genesis, where was Noah’s Ark said to rest after the Flood?
Answer
The mountains of Ararat
Answer
The mountains of Ararat
According to Genesis, Noah’s Ark rested on the mountains of Ararat.
Genesis 8:4 says that the Ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat on the seventeenth day of the seventh month. The wording is plural: it identifies a mountainous region rather than naming one specific peak. “Mount Ararat” is a familiar later shorthand, but it is not the exact wording of Genesis.
Ararat is commonly associated with the ancient kingdom of Urartu, a region connected with parts of modern eastern Turkey, Armenia, and neighboring areas. The biblical phrase therefore does not by itself establish which modern mountain was intended.
Many expeditions and claims have sought physical remains of the Ark, especially around Mount Ararat. None has produced universally accepted archaeological proof. The location should be distinguished from the biblical account’s separate details about rainfall, the dove, and Noah’s covenant.
