According to Genesis, what were the ark’s three stated dimensions?

The story behind the answer

According to Genesis, the ark measured 300 by 50 by 30 cubits.

Genesis 6:15 gives the vessel’s length, breadth, and height in that order: 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high. Genesis also describes an opening or window, a door in the side, and three decks. Because a cubit was an ancient unit based broadly on the length of a forearm, its exact modern equivalent is debated.

For that reason, converting the ark into metres or feet produces estimates rather than a single certain measurement. The proportions, however, are clear in the biblical text. The ark is described as a large rectangular vessel built from gopher wood and sealed with pitch. Modern replicas often use a particular assumed cubit length, so their dimensions can differ slightly even when they follow the Genesis proportions. The three-number answer remains stable because it is quoted directly from the narrative.
