According to Genesis, what was the Ark’s stated length?

The story behind the answer

According to Genesis, the Ark’s stated length was 300 cubits.

Genesis 6:15 gives the Ark’s dimensions as 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high. A cubit was an ancient unit generally based on the length of a forearm, but its exact standard varied across places and periods. For that reason, converting 300 cubits into modern metres or feet is approximate.

Using common estimates, the Ark would have been roughly 135 metres long, though proposed conversions differ. The dimensions describe a very long rectangular vessel, and the length-to-width ratio is 6:1.

A frequent error is swapping the three figures or treating them as modern measurements. Genesis supplies a length, width, and height in cubits; it does not identify one universally agreed modern equivalent.
