According to Genesis, the Ark’s only stated opening besides its door was a window. Genesis 6:16 instructs Noah to make a window, or opening, near the top of the vessel and to finish the Ark with a door in its side.
The precise design is difficult to reconstruct because translations differ on the Hebrew term and its measurements. Some versions describe a window, while others use “opening” or a related architectural term. The passage does not supply a complete blueprint for the Ark.
Later, Genesis says Noah opened the window and sent out a raven, followed by doves at separate intervals. These episodes show the opening being used to test whether the floodwaters had receded, but they do not add another permanent door or hatch to the construction instructions.
Artistic depictions often include many windows, decks, and exterior features. Those additions may be useful for illustration, but Genesis specifically mentions a side door and one window or opening.
