According to Genesis, what was Noah's profession after the Flood?

The story behind the answer

According to Genesis, Noah was a farmer after the Flood.

Genesis 9:20 describes Noah as a man of the soil, or a husbandman in some traditional translations. He planted a vineyard, linking his post-Flood occupation directly to cultivation and agriculture.

The passage is sometimes confused with the construction of the Ark, which might lead readers to call Noah a carpenter. Genesis gives him instructions to build the vessel, but it does not identify his ordinary profession as carpentry. Likewise, the text does not describe him as a shepherd or fisherman.

The vineyard episode comes after God’s covenant with Noah and his descendants. Genesis then recounts an incident involving Noah’s sons and his drunkenness. That later episode is separate from the earlier Flood narrative, but it begins with the agricultural detail that Noah planted the vineyard.
