According to Genesis, what was Noah told to bring aboard for food?

The story behind the answer

According to Genesis, Noah was told to bring aboard every kind of food that could be eaten. Genesis 6:21 instructs him to gather and store food for himself, his family, and the animals on the Ark.

This instruction appears after the building specifications and before the Flood begins. The narrative presents food storage as part of preparing for a prolonged stay inside the Ark, rather than as an incidental detail.

Genesis does not provide a complete menu, quantities, storage system, or feeding schedule. It also does not say that the Ark carried only grain, fruit, or a particular crop. “Every kind of food” is therefore the broad wording supported by the text.

The instruction is distinct from the later question of which animals entered. Genesis discusses the animals in nearby passages, but the food command is addressed to Noah and concerns provisions for the people and creatures preserved aboard the Ark.
