According to Genesis, a window was built into Noah’s Ark near its top.
Genesis 6:16 instructs Noah to make a window for the Ark and finish it within a cubit of the top. The same verse also mentions a door in the Ark’s side and three decks. These details form part of the construction instructions given before the Flood.
The Hebrew term translated as “window” has received discussion in translations and interpretations. Some versions use wording such as “opening” or describe a skylight-like feature. Nevertheless, the standard English account identifies a window near the top of the Ark.
This opening later becomes important when Noah releases the raven and the dove in Genesis 8. The text does not describe the Ark as having modern glass windows, mechanical ventilation, or a detailed lighting system. Those features belong to later artistic or engineering reconstructions rather than the biblical description itself.
