According to Genesis, what mountain range did the Ark come to rest among?

The story behind the answer

According to Genesis, Noah’s Ark came to rest among the mountains of Ararat.

Genesis 8:4 says that the Ark rested on the mountains of Ararat after the floodwaters receded. The wording refers to a mountainous region rather than naming a single summit. Ararat was associated with an ancient land or kingdom commonly linked to Urartu in the Armenian highlands.

Mount Ararat, the prominent volcanic peak in modern eastern Turkey, became the traditional location of the Ark in later interpretation and popular culture. The biblical wording itself does not say that the vessel rested on the specific peak called Mount Ararat today.

This distinction matters because “Mount Ararat” is a familiar shorthand, while “the mountains of Ararat” is closer to the wording of Genesis. Archaeological expeditions and alleged Ark discoveries have not produced accepted scientific evidence confirming the vessel’s existence or location.
