According to Genesis, what happened to Noah’s Ark after the Flood waters receded?

The story behind the answer

According to Genesis, Noah’s Ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat after the Flood waters receded. The wording is plural: Genesis does not explicitly name one peak called Mount Ararat in the verse describing the landing place.

“Ararat” is associated with the ancient kingdom of Urartu, located broadly around the Armenian Highlands and parts of modern eastern Turkey, Armenia, and Iran. Over time, popular tradition increasingly connected the biblical landing site with Mount Ararat, the famous volcanic mountain in eastern Turkey. That traditional identification is not identical to the exact wording of Genesis.

Reports of Ark discoveries on Mount Ararat have appeared for centuries, but no claim has gained general scholarly acceptance as proof of the biblical vessel. The strongest textual answer is therefore “the mountains of Ararat,” while “Mount Ararat” is a common traditional shorthand.
