According to Genesis, Noah's Ark had its door in the side. Genesis 6:16 lists the door alongside the Ark's roof opening and three internal levels, specifying that the entrance was placed on the vessel's side.
This detail is easy to confuse with later artistic depictions. Paintings, illustrations, and films often choose different angles or emphasize ramps and loading scenes, but the biblical wording itself identifies the side as the location of the door. Genesis does not name a nautical bow or stern for this feature.
The same construction passage presents the Ark as a large enclosed refuge with rooms for Noah's family and the animals. It also says that Noah was to cover the structure with pitch. These instructions belong to the narrative in Genesis and should not be mistaken for a modern engineering specification or a recovered archaeological blueprint.
