According to Genesis, on which day of the second month did Noah leave the Ark?

The story behind the answer

According to Genesis, Noah left the Ark on the 27th day of the second month. Genesis 8:14–19 says that the earth was dry by that date and that God then told Noah, his family, and the animals to leave.

The date comes at the end of a carefully dated sequence in the Flood narrative. Noah entered the Ark in the second month of his six-hundredth year, and the waters later began to recede. After waiting for the surface to dry, Noah did not leave simply because the Ark had grounded; he departed only after receiving God’s instruction.

Readers sometimes confuse this date with other numbers in the story, including forty days of rain, 150 days of prevailing waters, or the 17th day of the month when the Ark rested. These refer to different moments in the chronology.
