According to Genesis, on what date was the earth finally described as dry after the flood?

The story behind the answer

According to Genesis, the earth was finally described as dry on the twenty-seventh day of the second month.

Genesis 8:14 gives this date after a long sequence of flood-related milestones. Noah had already seen that the ground was dry on the first day of the first month, but he did not leave immediately. The later date marks the point at which the narrative says the earth itself was dry.

The distinction between these two dates is easy to miss. The first observation records dry ground visible from the ark, while the later statement follows continued waiting and precedes Noah’s departure. Genesis 8:15–19 then describes God telling Noah to leave with his family and the animals, bringing the ark episode to its conclusion.
