According to Genesis, on what date did the Flood begin when Noah was 600?

The story behind the answer

According to Genesis, the Flood began on the 17th day of the second month when Noah was 600.

Genesis 7:11 gives the date and connects it with Noah’s age. On that day, the fountains of the deep burst open and the windows of the heavens opened. Genesis 7:13 then says Noah, his family, and the animals entered the Ark on that same day.

The date is part of Genesis’s unusually detailed Flood chronology. Other dated moments appear later, including the Ark’s resting in the seventh month and Noah’s departure in the second month of the following year. These references are why interpreters distinguish the Flood’s beginning from its complete duration.
