According to Genesis, in which year of Noah's life did he leave the Ark?
Answer
His 601st year
Answer
His 601st year
According to Genesis, Noah left the Ark in his 601st year.
Genesis 8:13 says that in the first month of Noah’s six-hundred-and-first year, the waters had dried from the earth’s surface. Genesis 8:14–19 then describes the land as dry and Noah’s departure from the Ark. The text therefore places the exit after Noah had entered the Flood narrative at age 600, but during his 601st year.
This date is often confused with other ages in the story. Genesis says Noah was 600 years old when the Flood waters came, while the statement about leaving the Ark refers to the following year. Genesis later gives Noah’s total lifespan as 950 years.
The chronology reflects the detailed month-and-day framework used by the narrator. It also shows that the Ark episode lasted far longer than the forty days of rain, since Noah remained aboard while the waters receded and the ground dried.
