According to Genesis, eight human beings entered Noah's Ark.
The group consists of Noah, his wife, Noah's three sons, and the three wives of those sons. Genesis 7:13 describes them entering the ark before the flood, and later biblical passages refer to Noah's household as a group of eight people. The number is also echoed in 1 Peter 3:20, which mentions “eight souls” being saved through water.
The figure is easy to confuse with other numbers in the Flood narrative. Genesis mentions seven pairs of some clean animals, two of every kind in another instruction, 40 days of rain, and 150 days during which the waters prevailed. None of those numbers refers to the human passengers.
The text does not provide the wives' personal names in Genesis. Later Jewish, Christian, and Islamic traditions offer additional names and genealogical details, but those are not needed to establish the total. The canonical Genesis count remains eight people.
