According to Genesis, Noah’s Ark had three floors.
Genesis 6:16 gives instructions for the ark’s structure and says it should have lower, second, and third decks. These are commonly described as three levels or floors. The passage also tells Noah to make a window or opening near the top and to place the door in the side of the vessel.
The text does not provide a modern architectural blueprint. It does not explain how the rooms were arranged, how animals were distributed, or how ventilation and waste management worked in practical detail. Many later illustrations and reconstructions therefore make design choices that go beyond what Genesis states.
The ark’s dimensions are given as 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high. Since the ancient cubit was not a single globally fixed unit, estimates of the vessel’s absolute size vary. The number of decks, however, is explicit in the Genesis description and is separate from later artistic depictions that may show additional platforms or compartments.
