According to Genesis, how long did Noah wait between sending the dove and sending it again?

The story behind the answer

According to Genesis, Noah waited seven days before sending the dove again.

Genesis 8 describes Noah releasing the dove after the Flood waters had begun to recede. On its first release, the dove returned because it found no place to rest. Noah waited another seven days and sent it out again; this time it returned with a freshly plucked olive leaf. After waiting a further seven days, he sent the dove out once more, and it did not return.

The repeated seven-day intervals create a clear rhythm in the account. They also distinguish the dove sequence from the earlier release of the raven. The text does not say that Noah sent the dove only once; it describes several releases and records the result of each.

This detail is easily missed because the olive leaf is the best-known part of the episode. The seven-day wait is nevertheless stated directly in Genesis 8 and gives the story a precise chronological structure.
