According to Genesis 6:15, how wide was Noah’s Ark?

The story behind the answer

According to Genesis 6:15, Noah’s Ark was 50 cubits wide.

The same verse gives the ark’s full dimensions as 300 cubits in length, 50 cubits in width, and 30 cubits in height. The width is therefore one-sixth of the stated length. These measurements describe the vessel in the biblical flood narrative and are not confirmed by a surviving wreck or ancient construction record.

Because the cubit was not a fixed international unit, modern conversions vary. Depending on the assumed cubit, 50 cubits may be estimated at roughly 22 to 26 metres. The uncertainty affects the modern numerical conversion, not the number written in Genesis.

Artists and builders often create ark replicas with different proportions or added features. Such reconstructions may help audiences visualize the story, but the canonical biblical dimensions remain the 300-by-50-by-30-cubit specification.
