Chancellor Palpatine implies he can save Padme’s life to tempt Anakin toward the dark side of the Force.
In Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, Anakin is haunted by visions that Padme Amidala will die during childbirth. Palpatine exploits this fear by telling him about Darth Plagueis the Wise, a Sith Lord said to have manipulated the Force to create life and prevent others from dying.
Palpatine later reveals that he is Darth Sidious and suggests that the dark side may provide the power Anakin needs to save Padme. Anakin’s desperation leads him to betray Mace Windu, accept Sith teachings, and become Darth Vader. The promise is deliberately manipulative: Palpatine does not offer a proven cure, but presents forbidden knowledge as the only possible way to prevent Padme’s death.
A common mix-up is Anakin’s earlier attempt to save his mother, Shmi Skywalker, in Attack of the Clones. That tragedy helps shape his fear of loss, but Padme is the person Palpatine specifically uses to lure him into darkness.
