Whose image was used for the picture of Doug Forcett on Michael's office wall?

The story behind the answer

Noah Garfinkel’s image was used for the picture of Doug Forcett on Michael’s office wall.

Doug Forcett is a legendary figure in The Good Place’s afterlife mythology. While high on mushrooms in 1972, he supposedly guessed the structure of the afterlife and its point system with about 92 percent accuracy. Michael displays his portrait because Doug came closer than anyone else to discovering the truth while still alive.

The portrait initially functions as a background joke and a piece of world-building. Later, Doug becomes an actual character, played as an older man by Michael McKean. Garfinkel eventually appears in person as a younger version, confirming the connection between the photograph and the character.

The answer is sometimes confused with Michael McKean because McKean portrays the older, speaking version of Doug. Keston John and Mitch Narito play other characters in the series, while the office portrait specifically uses Garfinkel’s image.
