Who wrote the screenplay for The Lost World: Jurassic Park?

The story behind the answer

David Koepp wrote the screenplay for The Lost World: Jurassic Park.

The 1997 film was adapted loosely from Michael Crichton’s 1995 novel The Lost World, but Koepp’s screenplay also incorporated ideas developed with director Steven Spielberg. Koepp had written the screenplay for the first Jurassic Park film as well, making him the key returning screenwriter for the sequel.

The adaptation changed substantially from the novel. Spielberg and Koepp retained elements such as Isla Sorna, the second dinosaur island, and the suspended trailer sequence, while discarding or reshaping many characters and plotlines. Koepp also served as a second-unit director during production, helping film selected action and establishing shots.

A common mix-up is confusing Koepp with Peter Buchman, who co-wrote Jurassic Park III, or Derek Connolly, who co-wrote Jurassic World. Jim Taylor and Connolly were not the credited screenwriter for this 1997 sequel.
