At which Universal park did Jurassic Park: The Ride first open in 1996? Jurassic Park: The Ride first opened at Universal Studios Hollywood.
The attraction opened to the public on June 21, 1996, in the park’s Lower Lot. Its development began in 1990, even before the 1993 film entered production. Landmark Entertainment Group designed the ride, Vekoma built it, and Steven Spielberg provided creative input. Its reported $110 million cost made it the most expensive theme-park attraction of its time.
The water ride combined animatronic dinosaurs, story scenes, and a dramatic 84-foot drop. About 20,000 guests rode it on opening day, setting a debut attendance record for the park. The Hollywood attraction operated until September 2018, then reopened in 2019 as Jurassic World: The Ride.
The main source of confusion is Orlando: Universal Islands of Adventure opened its related Jurassic Park River Adventure in 1999, while Universal Studios Japan opened its version in 2001. Neither was the original 1996 location.
