Who won the tournament to determine the WWF Champion at WrestleMania IV in 1988?
Answer
Randy Savage
Answer
Randy Savage
Randy Savage won the tournament to determine the WWF Champion at WrestleMania IV in 1988.
The tournament was held after the WWF Championship became vacant following a controversial match between Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant at The Main Event. WrestleMania IV therefore centered on finding a new champion rather than defending an existing title.
Savage defeated Ted DiBiase in the final at Trump Plaza in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Hogan helped Savage during the match, beginning a celebrated partnership that later became a major part of WWF storytelling. Savage’s victory earned him the championship and the nickname “Macho Man” became closely associated with his title reign.
Hulk Hogan was not the tournament winner, although he was deeply involved in the surrounding rivalry. Andre the Giant and DiBiase were also major figures in the tournament, but DiBiase lost the final. The event used a 14-man bracket, with some competitors receiving first-round byes.
