Seth Wescott won the men’s snowboard cross gold medal at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.
Wescott defeated Canada’s Mike Robertson in the final at Cypress Mountain. The result made him the first snowboarder to win the Olympic men’s snowboard cross title twice, after his victory at Turin in 2006.
Snowboard cross is a head-to-head-style race in which several riders start together and navigate jumps, banked turns and other obstacles. It differs from parallel giant slalom, where riders race separately on parallel courses.
Wescott’s 2010 victory was especially notable because he recovered from a difficult start and passed Robertson late in the final. France’s Tony Ramoin won the bronze medal.
