Yang Wei won the men's individual all-around gold in gymnastics at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
The competition was held at Beijing National Indoor Stadium, with qualification on August 9 and the final on August 14, 2008. Yang scored 94.575 points in the final, finishing ahead of Japan's Kōhei Uchimura and France's Benoît Caranobe.
The victory completed a remarkable rise for Yang, who had won silver in the same event at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. He had also become world champion in 2006 and 2007, making him the clear favorite in Beijing. His gold was China's first Olympic men's individual all-around title since 1996 and only its second overall.
A common mix-up is confusing this event with the team all-around, which China also won in Beijing. Yang Wei was part of that gold-medal team, while Chen Yibing was another Chinese team member. Uchimura, meanwhile, won silver in the individual event and later became one of the sport's greatest all-around champions.
