Who won the Golden Boot at the 1982 FIFA World Cup after scoring six goals?

The story behind the answer

Paolo Rossi won the Golden Boot at the 1982 FIFA World Cup after scoring six goals.

Rossi scored all six of his goals in Italy’s final three matches. He returned from a two-year ban shortly before the tournament and initially struggled, failing to score in the first four matches. His breakthrough came in the second-round group match against Brazil, when he scored a hat-trick in Italy’s 3–2 victory.

He then scored both goals in Italy’s 2–0 semifinal win over Poland and opened the scoring in the 3–1 final victory against West Germany. Rossi also received the Golden Ball as the tournament’s best player.

His sudden transformation is one of the most famous individual stories in World Cup history. His six goals edged West Germany’s Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Poland’s Zbigniew Boniek, who each scored four.
