Nancy Greene won the first women’s overall Alpine Ski World Cup title in the 1966–67 season.
Canada’s Nancy Greene became the inaugural women’s champion when the Alpine Ski World Cup was launched in 1967. She also won the season’s giant-slalom title and finished as one of the circuit’s most successful early competitors.
The World Cup created a season-long competition across multiple alpine disciplines, rather than awarding recognition only at a single championship or Olympic Games. Points from race results determined the overall standings.
Greene had already won Olympic gold and silver at the 1968 Grenoble Games, but those medals came after the inaugural World Cup season. This distinction matters because Olympic success and World Cup overall titles are separate achievements with different scoring systems and histories.
