Who won the first Olympic women’s snowboard big air gold medal at PyeongChang 2018?

The story behind the answer

Anna Gasser won the first Olympic women’s snowboard big air gold medal at PyeongChang 2018.

Big air made its Olympic debut for women at the 2018 Winter Games. Austria’s Anna Gasser won the inaugural title with a total score of 185.00, while Jamie Anderson took silver and New Zealand’s Zoi Sadowski-Synnott took bronze.

In big air, riders launch from a single large ramp and perform aerial tricks. Judges evaluate factors such as difficulty, execution, amplitude and landing. Unlike slopestyle, the course does not contain a sequence of rails and jumps.

Gasser later won a second Olympic women’s big air title at Beijing 2022. Her first victory is the one associated with the event’s Olympic introduction, while her later result made her the first repeat champion in the discipline.
