Answer
Ashleigh McIvor
Answer
Ashleigh McIvor
Ashleigh McIvor won the first Olympic women’s ski cross gold medal at Vancouver 2010.
McIvor, representing Canada, won the inaugural women’s Olympic ski cross final at Cypress Mountain on 23 February 2010. Canada’s Kelsey Serwa took silver and Switzerland’s Tanja Frieden, the 2006 Olympic champion, was not the winner in this first women’s Olympic edition; the bronze went to Switzerland’s Karin Huttary. McIvor led the final from the start and held her position through the demanding course.
Ski cross places several racers on the course together rather than sending them down one at a time. The track includes jumps, rollers, banked turns, and other features, making starts and tactical positioning especially important.
Ski cross had already appeared in the 2010 Olympic program for men and women. Its inclusion expanded Olympic freestyle skiing beyond judged aerial and moguls events, adding a direct race format with multiple competitors sharing one course.
